Expand your horizons with BJ Central

Here you can find the complete content of the Biochemical Journal-the journal format as you have always known it. Benefit from the serendipity of discovery as the breadth of coverage enables you to make unexpected connections and links through papers outside your immediate knowledge environment.

In this paper, Jeremy Nichols, Dario Alessi and colleagues provide the first evidence that two serine residues (Ser910 and Ser935) are critically responsible for the binding of 14-3-3 proteins to LRRK2 (leucine-rich repeat protein kinase 2), the kinase that is mutated in a significant number of PD (Parkinson's disease) patients, a finding which has implications for the therapeutic treatment of PD. Read the Commentary by Iakov Rudenko and Mark Cookson.

In this paper, Janos Juhasz, James Davis and Frances Sharom investigate the partitioning of several fluorescent lipids into distinct phase domains in giant liposomes, and the effects of these probes on the phase separation – work which will help researchers characterizing domain structures in biological membranes to choose the most suitable probes and interpret some of the discrepancies. Read the Commentary by Nicoletta Kahya.

Terri Attwood and her colleagues in Manchester survey some of the recent projects that have sought to transform scholarly publishing paradigms, culminating in the Semantic Biochemical Journal. Download the software and see how papers are richer and the data more accessible than before. The Semantic Biochemical Journal marks the beginning of a publishing revolution, changing the way we interact with, and review, the scholarly scientific journal forever.
