Ana O'Loghlen
Ana O'Loghlen studied her degree in the Faculty of Biology at the Complutense University of Madrid. After finishing her degree, she worked briefly at the Istituto di Fisiologia Clinica del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche in Pisa (Italy) in Dr De Caterina's laboratory under the supervision of G. Lazzerini and G. Basta. Here, she studied the first step in the development of atherosclerosis. Later, she started her Ph.D. in the Hospital Ramón y Cajal of Madrid studying the relationship between oxidative stress and inhibition of protein synthesis, under the supervision of Dr Martín. During her Ph.D., she also worked briefly in Professor's Proud Laboratory at the University of Dundee (UK), where she studied new substrates for the protein synthesis kinase Mnk. At present, she is characterizing a novel human kinase, Mnk1b, which was discovered during her Ph.D. studies. She is a member of the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM) and has attended many national and international meetings.
