James Turner

James completed a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Bath in 2006. After his degree, James was employed as a research assistant in the department for Health at the University of Bath, working on a British Heart Foundation-funded project examining the mechanisms behind the atheroprotective effect of regular physical activity. In 2007, James started a Ph.D in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Birmingham, and was awarded his doctorate in January 2011. His thesis, entitled 'Immunosenescence and oxidative stress in healthy adults', was a series of studies to investigate how oxidative stress and infection with micro-organisms shape our immune biology and accelerate aspects of the aging process. James is now employed as a post-doctoral research fellow in the School of Immunity and Infection at the University of Birmingham. His current project examines T-lymphocyte responses to tumour antigens in CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukaemia) and AML (acute myeloid leukaemia).
