Biochemical Journal Young Investigator Award winner

Nuno Peixeiro

Nuno Peixeiro received his academic training in Biology at the Universidade de Coimbra in Portugal. Sponsored by the Fulbright Commission and Portugal's Ministry of Economy and Innovation, Nuno then spent nine months as a trainee at the Molecular Biology department of Genentech, Inc. in San Francisco, USA, supervised by Dr. Yuxin Liang, where he was responsible for generating and improving adenoviral production and retroviral tittering cell lines.

Upon his return to Europe, Nuno Peixeiro started his Ph.D. studies with the Unité de Biologie Moléculaire de Gène chez les Extrèmophiles at the Institute Pasteur in Paris, France. His fellowship was granted by the European Commission as a part of the Marie Curie research training network SOLAR. Under the supervision of Dr. David Prangishvili and Dr. Guennadi Sezonov, he is focusing on the study of transcription regulation in Archaea. His research aims to identify virus-coded transcription regulators to gain insights into the regulation network controlling virus infection, virus–host interactions and exceptional biological characteristics of the astonishingly diverse crenarchaeal viruses.
