Biochemical Journal Young Investigator Award
Neil Thomas
Neil Thomas studied for a Bsc in Biochemistry at King’s College, graduating in 2001 with a 2.1. Following his degree, Neil spent two years as a research assistant at the Institute of Child Health at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Neil was involved in a number of projects investigating the signalling pathways disrupted in childhood leukaemias. Working in a laboratory enabled Neil to realise that this was what he wanted to continue doing in the future, so he signed up for a PhD in the completely different field of cardiology. Neil has spent the last three years researching cardiac gap junctional communication with Professor Nick Severs and Dr Emmanual Dupont at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College. Neil will hopefully be moving to New York in the New Year to carry on his studies in the same field.
