Mohammad Keramatipour graduated from Birjand University of Medical Sciences, Birjand, Iran in 1997 with an MD degree in General Medicine. He then worked as a General Practitioner at Hasheminejad Hospital, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran.
In 1999 Mohammad undertook a short research project in the Department of Medical Genetics, University of Cambridge, doing an association study on genetics of neurological disorders. He is currently a PhD student in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge working under the supervision of Dr Paul Kemp on "Control of vascular smooth muscle cell gene expression".
The aim is to determine the role of the transcription factor BTEB3 in vascular smooth muscle cell gene expression by in vivo and in vitro studies. This research uses standard knockout and siRNA transgenic methods to modify its expression in mice. The work is funded by the Iran Ministry of Health and Medical Education and the British Heart Foundation.
