María del Rayo Sánchez Carbente

María del Rayo Sánchez Carbente graduated from University of Puebla in México as a biologist in 1997. She got her Ph.D. degree in 2006 in Biochemical Sciences from the Institute of Biotechnology of the National University of México (UNAM). As a Ph.D. student she developed a project in order to understand the role of oxidative stress in motoneuronal cell death during mouse development. After completion of her Ph.D., she joined the lab of Dr Luc DesGroseillers as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Montreal in Canada. There, she was interested in elucidating the role of RNA-binding proteins during mRNA transport to dendritic compartments in hippocampal neurons. Since last year, she has worked in the team of the Research Associate Dr Susana Castro in the laboratory of Dr Luis Covarrubias at the Institute of Biotechnology of the National University of México. Her current research aims to understand the modulation of autophagic cell death by nuclear receptor NR4A1.
