What is a BJ knowledge environment?

The Biochemical Journal publishes papers in English in all fields of biochemistry and cellular and molecular biology. In 2007, the Biochemical Journal introduced Knowledge Environments to the online journal as a means of categorising papers into collections by topic, aiding research communities and strengthening the journal's reputation as a high-quality academic resource.

The Biochemical Journal knowledge environments are currently:

Biomolecules, Cell, ChemBio, Disease, Energy, Gene, Metabolism, Plant and Signal

Each knowledge environment contains Reviews, Immediate Publications, Research Papers and Commentaries and other information, such as forthcoming meetings.

Why do papers appear in more than one BJ knowledge environment?

When you submit to the Journal, we ask you to select the knowledge environment that is most suitable for your paper. However, you may feel that your paper is relevant to more than just its primary knowledge environment, so you also have the option to choose a secondary one.

To see this in action, go to a knowledge environment home view and click on the issue links to see papers in that section. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and under the heading 'Related articles from other sections' you can see papers from other knowledge environments in each issue.

What's in it for me?

Connect with your own online research community and keep up to date with what they are publishing and which meetings they are going to.
